Guidelines and Terms of Service for Hosted Worlds

The following is a set of guidelines for all owners of private grids provided by ReactionGrid Inc. and details what is deemed to be supported and what is out of scope for support.

OpenSim Supported Configurations
Supported regions (max) RAM Processor (min cores)
4 1024 1
6 1280 1
8 1536 1
10 1792 2
12 2048 2
  1. We recommend no more than 4 OpenSimulator  regions on a 1024Mb RAM machine, and recommend no more than 1-2 additional regions per extra 256Mb ram purchased. Beyond 1.5Gb RAM we recommend a minimum of 2 processor cores for your machine to handle scripting and avatar load. The sooner this is added the better for performance.
  2. We recommend no more than 8 regions per instance of OpenSimulator (per console) and may limit support where this is exceeded. More than 8 regions per instance will lead to longer startup times, and potentially degrade performance. Splitting regions onto different consoles will improve redundancy, provided your machine has sufficient RAM, Processor and hard drive space to run extra consoles.
  3. We recommend you monitor your hard drive free space frequently – if your drive falls below 1Gb free space you urgently need to clear out some unneeded files (ReactionGrid Inc. can provide advice on what is safe to delete). If you fail to take action, your server and grid will perform erratically and will very likely crash. Hard drive size can be increased on request.
  4. Please do not exceed more than four OpenSimulator Region consoles on each server for maintenance reasons – any administration tasks and upgrades will take significantly longer the more consoles you run on your machine. More than 4 region consoles per machine is normally deemed out of support unless pre-agreed with ReactionGrid Inc. and only on a case-by-case basis will this level of support be offered. More than 4 region consoles and you will have the choice of fewer OpenSimulator updates per year, or additional paid support for additional updates.
  5. We offer one upgrade every 2 months, either hardware or software  (for a new release of ReactionGrid-approved OpenSimulator software if one is available). A memory or processor upgrade to a virtual machine can be performed on an ad-hoc basis for a fixed fee.
  6. We do not support any release of OpenSimulator that is not an officially supported ReactionGrid Inc-approved revision. Under certain circumstances we may package a revision of OpenSimulator that is not an official central OpenSimulator tag, but which has been thoroughly tested and vetted on core ReactionGrid Inc. servers. Often a tagged release of OpenSimulator may need extra patches for maximum compatibility; this is part of the service offered by ReactionGrid Inc. If a tagged release of OpenSimulator is deemed unacceptable for performance, stability or other issues, ReactionGrid Inc. will make this known and will not recommend that particular version for clients. In such situations, running with that particular tag is deemed an unsupported configuration. If you have any questions about what is and what is not supported, please contact us at http://metaverseheroes.com and we’ll gladly help clear up any confusion.
  7. Any version of OpenSimulator that has not been approved by ReactionGrid Inc. is unsupported, and any changes made to that release will be your responsibility to maintain.
  8. Any data loss incurred due to non-approved versions of OpenSimulator is your responsibility, and there will be a charge to attempt data recovery in this situation.
  9. Non-approved changes to OpenSimulator configuration are not supported, and we strongly recommend all configuration files are backed up before you attempt any changes to your configuration. Recovery of your data due to non-approved configuration changes, or where no backup of the original configuration exists, is chargeable.
  10. All ReactionGrid Inc. software  supplied with your machine is subject to ReactionGrid Inc. End User Licence Agreement. No copies are to be made of the software, no attempt should be made to reverse-engineer the software. Any non-approved changes made to ReactionGrid Inc. software are unsupported, and could breach your EULA. Please contact ReactionGrid Inc. for any change requests to ReactionGrid software.
  11. Software purchased from ReactionGrid Inc. is fully supported, and upgrades are offered when they are available. ReactionGrid software packages that are used to support and administer your OpenSimulator installation are deemed to be in Beta status. New features are constantly being developed for all of our software, and there may be small bugs – please report any bugs, and please feel free to make feature requests via http://metaverseheroes.com – our customer requirements drive our development efforts!
  12. All technical issues and support requests should be submitted as a support ticket on http://metaverseheroes.com  - direct contact to any of the ReactionGrid team via Skype, MSN or Email is still possible, but it is not recommended for general support issues. All issues must be logged centrally so that a complete knowledgebase of support articles can be built, and so all members of the team are kept informed. The Live Chat facility on the MetaverseHeroes site can be used to contact any of the team that are online, so is a good way to get instant help and support without guessing who is online at a specific time of day.
  13. Additional upgrades, reconfiguration of a grid, are priced at an hourly rate of $65 per hour for configuration changes, and $85 an hour for a change of codebase.
 Notes:
  • OpenSimulator is the official name for the BSD-licenced Open Source application server written in C# that is a platform for hosting a 3D virtual world (http://opensimulator.org). It is sometimes referred to as OpenSim.
  • Windows Updates should be installed as soon as possible, especially if they are a security update. Advice on how to perform this can be provided by ReactionGrid Inc, and occasionally we will update your server for you, but since you are more likely to know the best time to perform a reboot that works with your expected usage, you may want to control this yourself.
  • ReactionGrid Inc. software includes: ROAR Grid Admin, GridDotNet modules (incl. CARS avatar registration, offline messaging), SQLBackup tool, OSDC data connector module for OpenSim running on Microsoft SQL Server.
